I basically decided to go to Aix-en-Provence based solely on some Decemberists lyrics.
My mother was a Chinese trapeze artist
In pre-war Paris

We only had a day and a half in Barcelona, so we tried to see as much as we possibly could in that time. Lots of churches, the gothic district, Las Ramblas and the Arc de Triumf.
9/10 of my desire to go to Barcelona was to go to Parc Guell and wander in the whimsical dreamscape created by Antoni Gaudi, so we beelined straight from Monasterio de Piedra to the park. It has since inspired many of my own art pieces and decor around my house – it’s everything I want in life on one massive hill.
After a long flight from LAX to Madrid, we hopped in our trusty rental Citroen and set out on the open highway to an ancient monastery about 2 hours away. Founded in 1194 and now a national monument, Monasterio de Piedra seemed like a quirky way to settle into a new country – sleeping in rooms occupied by Cistercian monks for hundreds of years.
