Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River

First thing on the agenda after arriving at Toka Leya was an unexpected sunset cruise down the Zambezi River. We boarded the boat with our trusty captain and a few other couples and set sail toward the mighty river. Since this was my first real safari-esque experience in Africa I was a little unsure what to expect…

Expect the unexpected! Every other direction was teeming with life – baobab trees here, bee-eaters there, a hammerkop, a crocodile and the best: hippopotami! The hippos were actually a little unsettling though, cause they would just sink under the surface and out of sight when we came too close. All I could think was “What if they pop up again under the boat?!”

We motored around for a while until we came to an island where we were greeted with sundowners, biltong and a magnificent sunset. Pulling out all the stops, for certain.
