Year of Winning
SYV Wine Club
At the beginning of the year I found an Instagram contest on Santa Ynez Valley Wine Club’s page so I entered a couple photos – one had rolling hills with a vineyard in the distance and reminded me of the famed Windows XP background and it won! The prize was a free dinner at Bell Street Farm, a restaurant that I’ve been meaning to try since I heard about it almost a year ago. Woohoo!
Goleta Valley
The best advice we have for clients and their websites is to “go niche” … the more focused the better! So I followed my own advice and created a website celebrating restaurants, hotels and activities in Goleta. There isn’t anything else like it, so I thought it would fill that gap. Turns out the Chamber of Commerce in Goleta loved it and is going to buy it off of me and turn it into their tourism/hotel website! Hard work paying off!
Made in USSR
For my 30th birthday I’m planning on having a tea party, so I occasionally go out to Alpha Thrift to check out their teapot and tea cup collection to see if there’s anything worth picking up. I found a brilliantly ornate and delicate blue cup and saucer set for $12 (which seemed expensive for a thrifted cup, but whatever) and swiped it up. When I got home I noticed it said “Made in USSR” on the bottom, so I googled around and found that it’s genuine mineral cobalt and made with 22 karat gold! And they’re selling them online for $89! Bad ass.
Santa Barbara Club
Our friends are members at the SB Club and invited us out to a Casino Night they were having with assorted casino-related games. It was more about learning the games than real gambling and all of the proceeds benefited the SB Arts Fund. At the end of the night we had leftover chips, so we used them to buy slots in a raffle they were having for a 3-day trip to Las Vegas. They went around the room and finally stopped at me to be the one who drew the name out of the hat AND I PULLED MY OWN NAME OUT! Everyone was ecstatic and thought it was amazing luck! Impossible! But for some reason they pulled a switcheroo and only offered me a free dinner. … :\ Not lucky.
